FIVE NOVEL IDEAS FROM MARTIN KNOX
ANIMAL FARM 2
Do the animals find operation of the farm by superpower climate science is reasonable?
TIME IS GOLD
Could a marathon be won by a runner who internalises Einstein’s Special Relativity?
SHORT OF LOVE
Could being in love have vulnerability that prevents trust?
PRESUMED DEAD
Could a crime be reconstructed conclusively without confession or lucky guesswork?
THE GRASS IS ALWAYS BROWNER
Could Australia in the future have public policy issues decided scientifically?

TIME DOESN’T NEED REINVENTING

Do we need to recalibrate clocks with the latest scientific timepiece? It seems tyrannical to have to hitch our wagon train to such an exclusive and inaccessible instrument. In any case, Einstein’s a priori assumption that the speed of light is constant prevents that being verified by measurement because no independent clock is available. The notion of universal time seems practically useful but epistemologically unsound. Updating it obfuscates the main issue which is that humans have become obsessed with regulating their narrow affairs by timepieces instead of tuning into each other’s broader personal experiences. I have written a fiction novel Time is Gold which explores time in athletic endurance to be published soon.

Time is relatively okay.

RUN FURTHER IN LESS TIME, WITHOUT SPEEDING UP.
Einstein’s theory of special relativity in space travel was that movement in a faster time frame would dilate time. By analogy, stimulus response signals in a human nervous system would be in dilated or stretched time, enabling a runner to go further in less time without speeding up. By running in their own internal time, independently of the external time of timepieces, a runner ‘in flow’ can run timelessly, improve and win.
My speculative fiction novel Time Is Gold will be published later this year.
