A PARTY GAME IS OVER

Politics is supposed to bring people together and control their government. When independent politician Jane disappears from a hung parliament, the government is able to approve a casino development she opposes. Presumed Dead is a page-turner about how Phillip, a politician she loves and their friends, suspect foul play and search for her. They employ forensic techniques that reveal methodical corruption in bipartisan politics. In a final denouement, government leaders are exposed and the parliament is reconstituted.

This is a page-turning political whodunit, crime fiction demonstrating the workings of a Westminster System of democracy, in a fictional parliament and proposing non-partisan politics.

DO YOU HAVE AN INDEPENDENT COUNCILLOR?

Independent candidates are listed below for Brisbane’s election of a new City Council on March 28th.

Great importance of independents in a fictitious City Hall political process is shown in my political crime fiction thriller ‘Presumed Dead’. After a crime involving a developer is solved, an independent councillor becomes mayor and the council adopts non-partisan processes,  preventing self-serving party control. The storyline is exciting with exciting topics of current public interest.

Is the political party over?

“The political parties are there to distract us from our systems of government; instead of focusing on the system, we focus on political parties to vote for.
Voting is our only encouraged interaction with our systems of government.
The choice between political parties fractures our nations yet further, turns our focus on each other, and away from the mechanisms of our systems of government.”

Is a hung parliament democratic?

images-8

hung parliament is a term used in legislatures under the Westminster system to describe a situation in which no particular political party or pre-existing coalition has an absolute majority of members or seats.

Many Australians believe they bring huge problems to their country because in order to secure a majority coalition the major parties always have to do deals with small parties which involve agreeing to their inappropriate policies which most Australians don’t want. From the Australian perspective, coalitions are impractical and dangerous rather than a democratic dreamworld come true.

Hung parliaments are democratic. They reflect the breadth of views of the population. First past the post produces easy government, it is by no means democratic. The Party system is great for back seat passengers with nothing to offer. The answer might be to do away with the Party system all together and have individuals put up as independents.
